Kiln drying

Kiln dried here, from local wood.

Wood moves. It takes on water and gives it back, kiln dried or not, and around here we just say wood is gonna wood. What the kiln does is get it dry enough for the inside of your house before it goes up, so most of that movement happens here and not on your ceiling. Ours is the only kiln in Montrose County running 100% local wood.

Before it goes in

Wetter wood gets air dried first. Kiln drying it wet causes stress, warping and checking.

In the kiln

That's for 1" softwoods that go in under 20%. Thicker stock takes longer. Everything is air dried first, and our climate does much of the work.

What we kiln dry

Finish carpentry, T&G and furniture-grade lumber. We can kiln dry timbers, but we don't recommend it. It costs strength, and our climate air dries them fine.

Can we dry your wood?

Yes. We fit it into the kiln schedule, take a moisture reading and give you a real timeline. It needs to be under 20% going in, so air dry it first. Pricing is as low as $0.65 a board foot, with a $250 minimum.
